Ntsiki Biyela: South Africa’s 1st Black Winemaker

Published on May 7th, 2010

Since I’ve started working for a news station I find myself less and less likely to watch TV when I get home, apart from watching shows on my laptop and Jeremy Kyle in the mornings, (guilty pleasure…it’s like gossip magazines, which I also no longer read) I don’t watch TV.

While I am at work and surrounded by a ring of over 60 televisions screens all telling their take on various stories I’m often captured by CNN Europe and AlJazeera. CNN Europe in particular in the way it covers stories of the content of Africa, not in a voyeuristic way as do many other stations – but actually makes me want to watch and learn.

Case in point, footballer Jozy Alditore, and fashion company Stoned Cherrie – both whom have been featured on CNN. Also their take on events in Haiti were actually bearable (and that’s saying a lot – at one time it did get too much).

Cut to last week now, while I’m at my desk waiting for various graphics to work on and the story of Ntsiki Biyela – South Africa’s first Black winemaker comes on…
