[Photoset] Londoners protest for Trayvon Martin outside the US Embassy
Hundreds gathered outside the US Embassy in central London in protest over the untimely death of teenager Trayvon Martin on Saturday afternoon. The event – organised by Campaign 4 Justice, Ava Vidal, Tottenham Defence Campaign, BARAC and Inquest was also supported by Defend the Right to Protest. Amongst the speakers were Lee Jasper and Stafford Scott who echoed to need for communities to unite to fight what wasn’t a ‘black issue’ but a human issue. Also speaking on the day were various people whose family members and friends had suffered at the hands of the authorities, some being arrested and others dying. The support shown not only for Trayvon Martin but also the other young men of colour who’s lives have been lost was touching and gave hope that people are still fighting to bring justice and unite together. The protest ended with children releasing 17 black balloons to represent the 17 years of Trayvon’s life.
