[T-Shirt Tuesdays] Don’t Pet The Fro: where unsolicited petting is not welcome

Published on October 2nd, 2012

You’ve worked hard getting your ‘fro to the right level of fluff and curl. You appreciate the admiration of your crown but… no touching!

I couldn’t help but laugh when I saw this t-shirt. It seems as though if you have ‘interesting’ hair people just can’t seem to help themselves from touching it – whether they have your permission or not!

It looks like designer Abigail Ekue has experienced prying hands all too much as has created this hilarious t-shirt:

I’ve been natural for over 10 years and have dealt with complete strangers touching my hair in praise or examination. The bigger my afro became the more questions I received about how I “got my hair like that”. The Don’t Pet the ‘Fro Warning sign was designed as a graphic to be featured on my blog post I was writing about natural hair.

Anyone with a ‘fro can relate to the “Don’t Pet the Fro” t-shirt. The idea to put it on a t-shirt was born on Tumblr. The t-shirt is a fashionable way to let others know unsolicited petting is not welcome. When I wear the shirt it’s a symbol of solidarity and a conversation starter with other people with natural hair and those without.

To be in with a chance of getting your hands on one of these t-shirts just leave your name along with the name of a famous person with a great fro. The winner will be notified at the end of the month.
